Melissa McCarthy opens up about a film set that left her “physically ill” due to “hostile” working conditions.
In a recent interview, the 52-year-old actress didn’t name the set or who made the set “volatile.”
“I once worked for someone who ran such a volatile and hostile set that it made me physically ill. My eyes were swelling, I was absorbing all that craziness,” McCarthy told The Observer.
“There were people crying, obviously so upset by this one person. And I think that’s why the manipulation worked, because in order to get to me, this person was sending people I loved away that shut me up. It was very effective,” she continued. .

The ‘Little Mermaid’ actress recalled being quiet and hesitant to speak at first, but eventually hit her breaking point.
“Then one day, I said to myself: ‘It stops today!’ I kept telling them, ‘It stops, it stops.’ And I know now that I will never be silent again,” McCarthy said.
This experience helped start her production company, On The Day Productions, which she shares with her husband, Ben Falcone.

“You know, we were so amazed and grateful that we got to build our own little worlds. We were like, ‘We need to build the one we’ve always talked about, where everyone can have an opinion and everyone is really nice. , ‘” she says.

McCarthy continued, “It’s going to work a lot better without screamers or crazy egos. Why would we risk destroying that?”
Both Falcone and McCarthy do a “crazy check” before hiring someone on a movie from their production company because they “demand” respect and kindness on their film sets.

The couple, who have two teenage daughters together, have been married since 2005.
